Sustainable heritage tourism requires destinations to balance visitor experience, heritage conservation, environmental quality, governance, and community benefits. This study examined visitor perceptions of sustainable heritage tourism management on Mansinam Island, West Papua, Indonesia, using Importance–Performance Analysis (IPA). A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted in July 2026 using accidental intercept sampling. Of 115 collected questionnaires, 114 unique responses were analyzed. Thirty destination-management attributes were assessed across tour guiding, local culture and economy, governance, and environmental sustainability. Performance was significantly lower than importance across all four dimensions (p < .001), with effect sizes ranging from r = .42 to .60. The largest attribute-level gaps concerned cleanliness, toilets and waste facilities (−.70), transparency of tourism economic benefits (−.55), conservation awareness (−.55), restoration of sacredness following intensive visitation (−.51), and guide-mediated visitor behaviour (−.51). IPA identified five priority attributes requiring immediate attention: guide knowledge of Christianity in Papua, benefit transparency, destination-management clarity, enforcement of visitor norms, and environmental facilities. The findings indicate an interconnected destination-management deficit requiring coordinated improvements in environmental services, heritage interpretation, governance, visitor management, and community benefits.sustainable heritage tourism
